East Bridge Hospital - The Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr



East Bridge Hospital is a wonderful historic building. It was founded after the martrdom of St Thomas Becket on 29th December 1170 as accomodation for porr pilgrims who came to Canterbury to visit is toob. East Bridge Hospital
For 800 years the hospital provided shelter and help to pilgrims, soldiers, local societies and schoolchildren. For over 400 years it has provided a permanent home to a number of elderly people and still does today.

If you love buildings with a rich history then you will really enjoy this and its well worth putting on your iteinery.

Opening Hours

Eastbridge Hospital is open all year between Monday and Saturday (inclusive) 10am to 5pm and closed on Sundays.

Greyfriars Chapel and the Franciscan Garden is open from Easter to the end of September, 2.00pm to 4.00pm Monday to Saturday.

Worship takes place in both the Eastbridge Hospital and Greyfriars Chapel throughout the week. Visitors are welcome to join.
