St Augustines Abbey
St Augustines Abbey was founded in 597 AD by St Augustine and thus became the foundation for the birth of Christianity in England. A World Heritage site, it is situated just outside the Canterbury city walls, but is still within walking distance of the city centre and is well worth a visit. The site was the burial place for Anglo Saxon kings, before becoming a centre for Christianity. The Abbey offers a Museum and free audio tours. However you can also take the information tours. If you are visiting as part of a group, there are tours on a Friday, starting at 2pm and and 4pm, and lasting about 90 minutes. Opening Times and Prices April 2009 to March 2010Between 01 Apr and 30 Jun, the Abbey is open from 10am to 5pm on the following days. Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun.Between 01 Jul and 31 Aug, the Abbey is open from 10am to 6pm everyday. Between 01 Sep and 01 Nov, the Abbey is open from 10am to 5pm on Sat and Sun only. Between 02 Nov and 31 Mar, the Abbey is open from 10am to 4pm on Sat and Sun only. How much does it cost? Adult:£4.30 Children:£2.20 Concession:£3.70 English Heritage Members:Free.
