Traveling by Air to Canterbury is an easy option. The main UK airports that are within 3 hours of Canterbury are listed below and, should you choose to take a hire car, I have given you the travel times, and routes that you need to navigate, from your arrival airport to travel to Canterbury.
London Gatwick Airport, situated to the South of London, is probably the most convenient major airport to Canterbury. From the airport, you need to take the M23 motorway north until you reach the M25. Travel East on the M25 before taking the M2 and the A2 into Canterbury. The distance is 66 miles and the journey should take just over an hour.

London Heathrow Airport, situated to the West of London is London's, and arguably the United Kingdom's, major international hub and services nearly every other country in the world. On leaving the airport, head for the M25 motorway and go East. Continue until you reach the signs for the M2 motorway and follow the M2 until it becomes the A2 motorway. The distance is just over 90 miles and, depending on the time of day, this journey will take you about 2 hours.

London Stansted Airport is situated to the North of London. On departing the airport, follow the signs for the M11 motorway and London. Head south until you reach the M25 motorway where you will head East. You will have to cross the River Thames, on the Queen Elizabeth Toll Bridge, so ensure that you have £1.50 available!! Shortly after the bridge you will pick up signs for the M2 motorway and Canterbury. The distance is just over 80 miles and, again depending on the time of day, should take about 2 hours.

London Luton Airport is also North of London. You should take the M1 motorway South towards London before picking up the M25. Head East and you will have to cross the River Thames, as above. The journey is just over 100 miles and should take around 2 hours.

Finally, London City Airport is located in East London. Located outside of the London copngestion charge zone, you should look for the A1011 road. Continue heading East on the A13, following signs for the M25. You will need to pay the toll for the Bridge over the River Thames, shortly after, you should pick up the M2 motorway and follow signs for Canterbury.
